Firefighters from Traer and nearby towns were dispatched to the scene of a fire in the downtown area Tuesday afternoon. The blaze began in Simply Blooming, the town’s flower shop, sometime around 2 p.m. and was discovered when owner Lisa Eikamp returned from a delivery run. Crews from Gladbrook and Dysart were also on scene, and a ladder truck from Toledo was also requested. Second Street has been closed between Highway 63 and Taylor Street to allow crews use of the block as they extinguish the blaze and begin surveying the damage. The Traer Theatre, which shares a wall with Simply Blooming, was full of heavy smoke but appeared to suffer no direct damage from the fire, according to theater officials.
