GLADBROOK – The undefeated Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels took a bulldozer to Montezuma here on Halloween Eve — burying the Braves, 66-0, in an 8-Man Round of 16 shutout to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Montezuma started hot on the first drive of the game, nearly scoring a passing touchdown on fourth down, but the Rebel defense kept at it, finally forcing a turnover to take possession at their own 10-yard line.

The entire remainder of the game was nothing short of a routine hammering by the Rebels. G-R scored 49 points across the first half; three points in the third quarter; and another 14 points in the final quarter.

Against the Braves, Rebel quarterback Bennett Sieh went 7-of-10 passing for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to running back Treyvon Herron. He also threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to tight end Devin Boldt.

Herron led the Rebels’ ground game, carrying eight times for 70 yards and three touchdowns. Macklin Clark carried 13 times for 40 yards. Brayton Dripps carried four times for 28 yards and a score. Sieh also ran in a touchdown. Brayden Utter made all five PAT attempts. Two-point conversions were recorded by Clark and Utter, who each had one apiece.

The Rebel defense recorded 35 tackles, led by Herron with seven tackles, including a sack. Cole Gramer and Clark both had 4.5 tackles; Gramer had two sacks. Laken Thesing had four tackles.

Karson Van Heiden and Sieh both recovered a Montezuma fumble. Brayton Dripps had two interceptions, returning one for a 20-yard touchdown. Herron also scored a 46-yard touchdown on a punt return.

The Rebel wall held Montezuma (8-2) to a mere 30 passing yards and just 88 yards on the ground.

With the Week 10 win, G-R (10-0) advanced to the 8-Man quarterfinal round and is set to play Coon Rapids-Bayard (8-3) tonight, Thursday, Nov. 5, at “The Pit” in Gladbrook for a return trip to the Dome next week.

The 8-Player state semifinals are set to take place Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
