AREA – The upcoming General Election set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, will feature an open race for Iowa House District 76, including Democrat Calvin Horn of Elk Run Heights and Republican Matt Reisetter of Hudson.
House District 76 encompasses the townships of Clark, Perry, Geneseo, and Buckingham in northeast Tama County – including Dysart and Traer – as well as three rural townships in northwest Benton County plus the Black Hawk County areas surrounding and including Hudson, La Porte City, Gilbertville, Evansdale, and Elk Run Heights. The urban-rural district also includes much of Cedar Falls proper.
Republican incumbent state Rep. Derek Wulf, a farmer and rancher hailing from rural Hudson, was first elected to the seat following the November 2022 general election. Earlier this summer, Wulf was selected to run for lieutenant governor alongside gubernatorial nominee Zach Lahn on the Republican ticket. Local GOP central committee members subsequently convened in late July to nominate Wulf’s replacement – settling on Reisetter who serves on the Hudson City Council.
Ahead of the General Election, the newspaper sent questionnaires to both Horn and Reisetter.
Horn’s responses can be viewed in full here.
