Gladbrook Women’s Club October meeting report
GLADBROOK – The October meeting of the Gladbrook Women’s Club took place Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, and featured the Gladbrook Senior Citizen Dinner.
Karen introduced Sandy Sharp at our annual Senior Citizen Dinner. Sandy shared many family memories of Maid Rite, which she and her children still own, to our delight. This important part of Central Iowa’s history brought back many fond memories to all in attendance, including outstanding sandwiches, wonderful shakes, delicious pies, and even the addition of ketchup for those so inclined. Sandy added, for the record, that there is no secret recipe for the meat, just excellent ingredients.
JoAnn convened the business meeting at 1:20 p.m. Following roll call with 16 members responding, the September minutes were accepted as read; the new Secretary Pat was warmly welcomed. Karen gave the September financial report, and Vivian presented current activity bills for reimbursement. No Correspondence or History Committee activities were shared.
Membership remains steady with one member yet to submit annual dues. Joyce wished Barb a Happy Birthday. Jennifer and Jamie are working to combine and update all files and capabilities on our Facebook page. Administrators will approve new/joining GWC members. Thanks to these ladies for their techno skills. Hospice cookies were brought to the meeting; Rhonda will deliver them. The theater sign-up sheet was passed for October volunteers, as well as future 2nd Sunday night movie coverage. Joyce mentioned that Gladbrook groups are invited to fund free Halloween movie attendance. Avriel moved and Rhonda seconded that we cover the rental for one of these showings with a $100 donation. Little discussion; motion carried.
The Methodist Church approved GWC holding the Nov. 3 Election Night Supper in their Fellowship Hall (5-7 p.m.). Our menu consists of Chili, Chicken Noodle and Cheesy Broccoli Soups, Beef Burgers, Hot Dogs, Salad, and Bars. Sign-up sheets were passed; members discussed where and by whom the flyer/ information can be sent or posted in town and around the area. We appreciate that Joan has previously put out the Street Sign Ad, encouraging her to do this again.
“Who Ville Holiday” is the theme for the 2026 Festival of Trees; our tree is stored upstairs. Pat moved that Jamie and Melissa be asked to continue their excellent decorating skills for our contribution. Karen seconded; motion passed.
The November 12 meeting will be at the Gladbrook Nook, with Sam DeWitt presenting the program. In December, we will have our Christmas luncheon. At that time, we can make any additional donations, supplementing our annual budget.
JoAnn closed the meeting at 1:55 p.m.
