GARWIN – During GMG’s annual senior awards ceremony held on May 17, mother and educator Taylor Fevold – a teacher substitute and junior class sponsor – presented the 2024 Harrison Eugene Fevold Scholarship to graduating senior Stella Betts. Mrs. Fevold’s speech is printed in its entirety below.
“My Son, Harrison Eugene Fevold, came into this world sleeping June 6, 2023. He was completely perfect but we had to say goodbye before we really even got to say hello, I promised him his life had meaning and he was meant to be ours. That this was just ‘see you later.’
“His life made a huge impact on our family and we would like to continue Harrison’s impact by impacting even one of my “other” kids.
“As I was trying to figure out life as a mother without one of my children, a child who is learning to navigate life without her mother reached out to offer comfort. Even through our journeys are different our grief was same. We were both living a life that looks completely different and neither of us planned. Yet here we were faced with no other choice than to learn how to live a life they would be proud of. Her simple “its ok to not be ok” shortly after losing him meant more than I could ever explain. I may not have personally known her mother but I have no doubts her mother is watching her Overflowing with Pride.
“Stella Betts it would be great pleasure if you would join me up here and accept this scholarship in Honor of our son Harrison.”
