LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The town of Gladbrook may be small by population standards, but when it comes to the impact of its local American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit, the community punches well above its weight class and has recently earned national recognition for doing so.

During this year’s annual ALA National Convention held Aug. 28-Sept. 3 in Louisville, Ky., Gladbrook’s Unit #27 brought home an ALA National President’s Award for Excellence. The award is given annually to a Unit for their outstanding work with ALA Mission Outreach Programs.

Applications for the award must contain a narrative and photos of three (3) different Outreach Programs, which include ALA Girls Nation Committee, Americanism, Children and Youth, Community Service, Education, Junior Activities, Legislative, National Security, Poppy, and Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation.

Only five (5) annual awards are chosen from the nearly 8,000 Units in the nation.

As part of the application, Gladbrook ALA President Jeanne Paustian highlighted her Unit’s work with Community Service, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Paustian received the award in person as she was attending the convention with her daughter, Past National President Nicole Clapp.

The Gladbrook Unit Officers appreciate all the members who help and assist with projects throughout the year. Special thanks to Jeanne for her leadership!
