Grundy County celebrates Pork Month

The staff at Creekside and Parkview, represented by Scott Kramer, received pork sticks to enjoy from Grundy County Pork Producers, represented by Laura Hommel and Sarah and William Rickelman.

In celebration of Pork Month, Grundy County Pork Producers showed they care for the community by donating pork certificates and pork sticks to local organizations.

Grundy Pork chose to recognize the efforts of staff at the county’s nursing care facilities. Oakview Inc, Conrad, Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center, and Arlington Place, Grundy Center, received certificates for purchasing pork for staff appreciation meals. Creekside, Grundy Center, and Parkview, Reinbeck, received pork sticks for staff to enjoy.

“Care center staff have worked under especially challenging circumstances these past few months,” said Laura Hommel, Chair of Grundy County Pork Producers. “We appreciate the staff’s efforts to care for their residents, several of whom were former pork producers.”

Grundy Pork also presented 100 coupons worth $5 off of fresh pork to Operation Threshold. The coupons are for families in need of food assistance across Grundy County.

“Operation Threshold works with families to provide them nutritional meals,” said Hommel. “We appreciate the organization’s efforts to help the community.”

The mission of Operation Threshold is to collaborate, educate and provide services to help meet the basic needs of people and create opportunities for self-sufficiency.

The pork certificates and pork sticks were also sponsored by Iowa Pork Producers Association and the Pork Checkoff.
