St. Ambrose University spring commencement

DAVENPORT, Iowa-St. Ambrose University held its spring commencement ceremony on, Saturday, May 14, at the iWireless Center, 1201 River Drive, Moline, Ill.

A total of 689 degrees, including 501 bachelor’s degrees, 187 master’s degrees and one doctoral degrees, were conferred during the ceremony.

Jim Collins, a 1969 St. Ambrose University alumnus and longtime leader in efforts to enhance and promote diversity, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the commencement ceremony. Collins, who also is a Trustee Emeritus of the SAU Board of Trustees, delivered the commencement address during the ceremony.

Honorary degrees were also conferred upon Tom ’72 and Caren Bakrow Laughlin ’76. Tom Laughlin spent 34 years as the founding executive director of the River Bend Foodbank. Caren Bakrow Laughlin supported that work in a volunteer capacity before taking on an official role as director of marketing for the nonprofit agency.
