GARWIN – Rhianna Murty (GMG Class of 2026) of the GMG FFA Chapter was recently awarded a Gold Ranking for her Beef Entrepreneurship project at the national level in the National FFA Proficiency Award Program.

Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences (SAE) projects, have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Nationally, students can compete for awards in nearly 50 areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Proficiency awards are also recognized at local and state levels and provide recognition to members that are exploring and becoming established in agricultural career pathways.

Rhianna’s SAE program consisted of a cow/calf operation, feeder calves that were purchased, fed out, and marketed, and working on her family beef farm. This project spanned four years of high school and has led her to the career area that she is pursuing in college.

Through her project, Rhianna kept records on her animals financially, as well as records of skills developed as a result of the project. Her beef project was the state winner in the Beef Entrepreneurship Proficiency area at the Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference in April. The application was then sent on this summer to be evaluated for national competition where she competed against members from across the United States in this area.

This is the first National Qualifying Proficiency Award for the GMG FFA Chapter and we are very excited that Rhianna’s project earned a Gold Ranking.

Rhianna is a Freshman at Iowa State University majoring in Animal Science with a double major in Animal Enterprise & Innovation. She hopes to one day work in the field of beef nutrition or reproduction as well as continuing to farm with her family and raise beef.

Congratulations, Rhianna, on your accomplishments! Your FFA Chapter and Community are proud of you.
