Our mornings always start with coffee in the dining room at 8:30 a.m. for those early risers, just waiting for the mail to get here and our usual things like exercises at 2 p.m. three times a week, card playing on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. On the 6th it was the UCC Circle group at 1:30 p.m. and at 4:30 p.m. we had Linda Jacobsen sing karaoke that was very good. Her friend Don Shellenberger who must have lived around here at one time shared a few stories. After the program we had a soup supper for the Westview people. Kelly Dinsdale made the fresh bread for us and Mary Lou Moser made pumpkin bars, as usual it was a good time.

On the 7th was the day Gov. Branstad wanted everyone in Iowa to walk for the Start Somewhere walk at noon. Some Westview people did this. What a party we had on the 7th. It was Art Tille’s 103rd birthday and his family treated us all for supper. After we ate he gave several of us rides in his 1929 model A Ford. What a fun guy. We all wish you good health and lots more birthdays, Art.

On the 10th was Janet Schildroth Bible Study; always a good group out for this. On the 11th was Mae Jean Hoeppner’s birthday and she was gone on a trip for her birthday and Ray and Marlys Boege celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

The 12th was played a couple of games of bowling on the Wii after exercises. Cherie Eckhoff came on the 13th and helped serve our dinner and then played the clavinova for us while we ate. We really enjoyed this-you can stop in any time. Then at 2 p.m. we had our favorite game of bingo and then again on the 27th.

The 14th Joanne DeLaHunt helped with movie night at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room. Book Club met at 4:00 & 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. Twenty-two of us enjoyed our “Night Out” at the new restaurant-The Slice-in Dike. Good food and a fun time on the 20th.

Some of the day care Kids came to Westview at 2 p.m. on the 28th for a Halloween party. They were all dressed in their costumes. We played a couple of games like stick the nose on the pumpkin and then they wrapped Robin Moore and Molly Beenken, a couple of their helpers, with toilet tissue to be like a mummy. This got a few laughs. They each received a bag and paraded around to each Westview resident for treats. Juice boxes and decorated pumpkin cookies were served to everyone. The cookies were made and decorated by the Westview people. Raggedy Ann and a nun was even there. Can you guess who that might have been? Then on the 31st we had our own Halloween party and of course with treats.

In regular print is Left Neglected and in large print Her Mothers Hope, Christmas Wedding, Room, Nearing Home, Heaven is For Rent and Unbroken. These sound like they would all be some good reading.
