Westview News

May has been here and gone already, but what a busy and fun month with all the graduations, prom, birthdays, Mother’s Day, bridal showers, weddings and fun things happening at Westview.

Birthdays this month were mine on the 7th, Marilyn Storjohann on the 9th, Donna Claxton on the 10th and Cecil Lauterbach on the 27th. On my birthday I was just happy to even make it to 75, so I called Coach Ed Nelson and his friends to come to Westview to entertain us. What a good time, he played a lot of oldie goldies that we knew and sang along with him and really should have been up dancing. Later we enjoyed cake and ice cream.

On the 2nd went to Lincoln to see the prom decorations. Hollywood was the theme-they always have it looking neat. What a fun night for all the kids.

Christie Bolin and Mae Jean Hoeppner got our garden planted and it is looking good. And thanks to Marlys Karkosh for filling in some spots around Westview with lilies and hostas and filling our flower pots out front. You always help us keep it looking nice around here.

On the ninth was our Mother-Daughter or Friend Tea. Our dining room was packed with ladies. Our entertainment was Emma Rathe, a 13 year old beautiful singer. She sang several songs for us and then did a little skit of Edith Ann, such talent, thank you Emma. Then we were treated by my good friend Nancy Mitchell and all of her purses and told stories of each one. We are so lucky to have so much talent in our community and Nancy can do many different things. Thank you Nancy for sharing your “Bag Lady” stories with us. Since it was Marilyn and Donna’s birthdays we were treated to birthday cake, punch and coffee.

We have had a good group from the Methodist Church for bible study on Tuesday nights. Thanks to everyone for doing this.

On the 14th bingo was played by several people, of course you couldn’t retire on our big jackpot.

The 21st we watched the movie “Marley and Me” which was a good movie.

One Saturday night I stopped in at Westview and several people were sitting in the lounge visiting and it was time for “Big Joe’s” Polka Club on TV so we watched that together. We will have to push back the table and chairs in the activity room some Saturday night and have a dance.

What a fun time on our “night on the town.” Twenty-two of us enjoyed eating at Dutch’s Steakhouse in Parkersburg. After eating we drove around town to see all the new places being built again after the tornado a year ago. Things are looking good, you can see that a lot of hard work has taken place there and you are still in our thoughts and prayers. Our birthday treats were brownies and scotcheroos and we are getting good at singing Happy Birthday.

The 28th several of us took a road trip to Gladbrook to see the Matchstick Marvels. I saw this when it was still at his home but there is a lot more now. Talk about patience, patience. Of course, we checked out the Museum, theater and had ice cream at the concession stand.

Good crowd out for the LSB Bunco game day. Thanks for doing this Julie.

We are still doing our regular things around here-exercises, lots of card playing, visiting at the coffee pot and thank you so much for all the treats that are brought in for us to enjoy. I wish I could name each one of you but I am not always here so I don’t want to leave anyone out. I will have to put a pen and paper by the coffee pot so I can keep track of all the good friends we have. I do know Mary Lee Henderson brought some of her 90th birthday cake for us, thank you so much and many more birthdays.

We are happy to have Evelyn White and Dorothy Akkerman back with us after spending some time in the hospital and nursing home, and were excited to have Marie Martens, Lovina Rohach and Dan Billerbeck as part of our Westview family; also Leonard Mumm and Alford Koch who recently moved in.

I also would like to thank the G-R students from the shop class and the agricultural class for the trash cans and flower boxes and for planting the flowers in them on Main St. with our new benches it is looking great.

Guess I better get this to the Courier office so catch you again next month. Stop in and check us out as we only have one apartment left and when that gets full Christie will dance on the table. Can’t wait to see that. Take care.
