G-R Presents “The Miracle Worker”

G-R Drama will present the play “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson on March 27th and 29th at the High School Auditorium in Reinbeck. This drama concerns Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan, and is “one of the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern stage.” Little Helen, trapped in her secret world, is bitter, violent, spoiled, and almost animal-like. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind waiting to be rescued from that dark, tortured, silence. This play is a departure for G-R Drama, treating a serious subject as opposed to the normal light-hearted comedy, but we sincerely hope that the audience will be as entertained as were the critics, who called it “Interesting, absorbing, and moving”-N.Y. Post, and “Magnificent theatre”- N.Y. Daily Mirror. As an interesting sidebar, the play’s author, William Gibson, died last November 25th, 2008. His play about Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller made stars of Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, who starred in the 1962 movie, directed by Arthur Penn. Tickets will be $4.00 at the High School office, or at the door. Watch for the announcement.
