GC/G-R girls soccer reaches regional final

IOWA FALLS – Following an opening round bye, the Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls soccer team defeated Grand View Christian, 8-0, on Thursday, May 28, before doing the same to No. 8 Colfax-Mingo, 3-1, on Tuesday, June 2, in Class 1A postseason play to advance to the Region 7 championship against No. 12 Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday, June 4.

Due to the threat of severe weather later that afternoon, the state-qualifying match played in Iowa Falls was moved to 2 p.m. from the original 7 p.m. start time.

The Cadets were up 2-1 over the Rebels at the half before scoring twice more in the second half to defeat GC/G-R, 4-1, and earn a trip to the state tournament.

Statistics were not available for the Rebels as of press time. All four Iowa Falls-Alden goals were scored by junior Grace Hartford. Senior Cadet keeper Abigail Janssen made four saves.

Iowa Falls-Alden lost 8-1 in the opening round of the 2026 Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament to top-seeded Denver. The Cadets ended the season at 17-3-2.

GC/G-R closed out the season at 9-7-1, improving on last season’s 4-11-2 and recording the Rebels’ best record since 2012-13 (10-4).
