Knaack earns all-conference honors; G-R boys 5th overall at NICL championship

CEDAR FALLS – On Thursday, May 7, some of the best golf teams in Class 1A and 2A teed it up at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls for the 15-team, 90-golfer NICL Conference boys championship.
The Rebels were up to the task Thursday, shooting a season-low team score of 334 for fifth place. Hudson’s top-4 scores matched the Rebels’ top-4 with both teams scoring 334. In the event of a tie, the fifth-best score from each team is used to break the tie. G-R came in with three scores of 87 and one of those 87s won the tiebreaker by seven strokes.
Anthony Knaack led the Rebels with a team-low 79 to place 13th overall, earning first-team NICL honors.
Laken Thesing posted the Rebels’ second-lowest score with an 81, while Brayton Dripps shot his 18-hole personal record with an 88.
Congratulations to the Columbus Catholic Sailors for winning the team title with an impressive 303. East Marshall came in second followed by the hosts Aplington-Parkersburg and Grundy Center.
This past Wednesday, May 12, the Rebels began postseason play at Oakwood Golf Course in Conrad for a chance to advance to the regional final in Fort Dodge.
