G-R golfers tee off season at Oelwein

OELWEIN – Following the cancelation of the South Hamilton 18 Hole Meet that had been set for Tuesday, April 7, Gladbrook-Reinbeck golfers teed up their respective seasons the following Thursday (April 9) with a trip to Hickory Grove Golf Course in Oelwein for an NICL triangular that also included Dike-New Hartford.

The Rebel boys earned gold with a team score of 166, besting the Huskies’ 172 and the Wolverines’ 178. Junior Anthony Knaack led G-R with a low score of 40, placing third overall, while sophomore Chad Gutknecht and freshman Laken Thesing rounded out the Rebel top-3 with scores of 41.

G-R girls also competed in the triangular with four Lady Rebels marking their first golf meet ever.

“The coaches witnessed some very good shots from each golfer. They are excited to see how this group progresses throughout the season,” G-R posted to social media following the meet.

Junior Avery Boyer was G-R’s individual low scorer with 51, tying for fifth overall. Freshman Reese Schneider followed with 52, placing seventh in her first meet.
