G-R girls continue to lead NICL after felling Falcons, Warriors

REINBECK – The Class 1A No. 4 Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team (Jan. 7 rankings) took down the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons, 70-52, here Monday evening for their fourth conference win in a row, moving to 8-1 on the season and 7-0 to lead the NICL.

While the Falcons (4-5, 3-4) got out to an early start, leading 18-7 following the first quarter and 28-25 at halftime, before the Rebels surged in the second half – scoring 25 points in the third quarter followed by another 20 in the fourth (outpacing A-P by 21 points) for the conference win.

G-R’s statistics were not available in time for publication.

Three nights earlier on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, G-R played for the first time since pausing for the holiday break, hosting the Wapsie Valley Warriors (4-5, 4-4) in another NICL contest. The game was tight throughout much of the first half, with G-R leading 11-10 and 28-19 at the breaks. In the second half, the Rebels showed their dominance, pulling ahead with a steady build of their lead for the 56-37 win. G-R totaled seven rebounds to Wapsie’s 21.

Kennedy Brant led the Rebels against the Warriors, notching a double-double by pairing 17 points and 15 rebounds – both team-highs. She added five assists, five steals, and five blocks for good measure. Elly Sieh tallied 14 points, three assists, and six of G-R’s 14 steals, while Brinn Schneider had 10 points, three assists, and four rebounds. Kailey Larsen contributed eight points, three assists, and a steal. Off the bench, Olivia Riffey pitched in four points, five rebounds, and two steals.

After another home conference contest with the winless AGWSR Cougars Tuesday evening, G-R was scheduled to embark on an NICL road tour, facing Union tonight, Friday, Jan. 9, in La Porte City before heading to Jesup the following Tuesday (Jan. 13) and then Ackley a week later (Jan. 20) to face the Cougars again. The non-conference game with Class 2A No. 6 Denver that had been set for Saturday, Jan. 10, was postponed with a makeup date yet to be determined as of press time.
