No. 5 Lady Rebels shellack Redhawks for non-conference victory
REINBECK – The Class 1A No. 5 Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball team shellacked their home hardwood (and then some) with the North Tama Redhawks on Monday, Dec. 15, for a 61-10 non-conference victory.
The Rebels (4-1, 3-0) – who started hot, racking up 22 points in the first quarter alone – suffocated the Redhawks offense, limiting North Tama to just a single basket in the first quarter, three points in the second, zero in the third, and five in the final to secure the win.
Senior Kennedy Brant led the Rebel charge, notching a double-double with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Elly Sieh added another 10 points and five rebounds. Junior Kailey Larsen had seven points and five steals, while junior Natalie Witt came off the bench to contribute six points. Senior Brinn Schneider and senior Mailea McLean (off the bench) both added three points for the win.
Sophomore Lily Sell led the Redhawks, scoring half of North Tama’s 10 total points. Sophomore Shawna Cibula led on the glass with six rebounds.
Ahead of the holiday break, G-R accumulated two more conference wins, including a defeat of South Hardin, 63-46, on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and a narrow 48-46 victory over Grundy Center on Friday, Dec. 19, to remain firmly atop the NICL (6-1, 5-0). The Rebels only loss this season has been to non-conference Maquoketa Valley back on Dec. 6.
