GMG runners among local competitors at Jewell state-qualifier
JEWELL — East Marshall junior Sydney Hull and Meskwaki freshman Bree Scabbyrobe earned spots at the state cross country meet with top-10 finishes at the Thursday, Oct. 23 Class 1A District 7 qualifier at Jewell Golf and Country Club.
Hull finished seventh overall with a time of 20 minutes, 37.0 seconds, while Scabbyrobe scored the final spot by placing 10th in 20:59.4. Scabbyrobe had a 14-second cushion on the next closest runner to secure her spot at state.
Scabbyrobe is just the second Meskwaki runner to reach the state cross country meet, following in the footsteps of Shye Johnson, who qualified as a junior in 2020.
GMG was led by Grace Mathern in 35th place (24:04.9), while Taelyn Sash was 45th in 25:07.6.
In the boys race, Brayton Davis placed 40th for GMG, clocking in at 19:37.0, while Henry Dieleman was 50th in 20:09.4.
