Wolverines bury Bolts for Iowa Star South victory

GREEN MOUNTAIN — The GMG softball team broke a 3-all tie with six unanswered runs to topple Baxter 9-3 in the Friday, June 27 Iowa Star Conference South Division showdown.

The Wolverines (10-8, 8-7) led 3-0 before Baxter (1-18, 1-13) scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to draw even. GMG got three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put away the conference win.

GMG ace Riah Boege struck out 15 in the win, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks. Her batterymate, freshman catcher Skyler Murty, propeled the offense by going 4-for-4 with a double, a run and four RBIs.

Addison Elmore was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run (her third this season), three runs and two RBIs, while Natalie Upah and Taelyn Sash both singled and scored twice. Boege and Madison Bryant both chipped in singles.

Heading into this week, Boege was No. 3 (No. 2 in Class 1A) in the state across all classes for strikeouts with 194; she was also tied for fourth in 1A for opponent batting average at .143.
