G-R’s Brant captures NICL conference gold, breaks school record

JESUP — Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior track and field star Kennedy Brant captured conference gold while breaking a school record at the North Iowa Cedar League Mega Meet on Thursday, May 8, at Jesup High School.

Brant won the 400 hurdles in a school-record time of 1:06.72. She was also second in the high jump (5-4) and fifth in the 400 (1:01.58).

Grundy Center girls took the title Thursday night, crowning seven event champions on their way to first place, finishing with 96 points. Aplington-Parkersburg was second (77.5) and Jesup was third (74). East Marshall placed ninth with 44 points, and Gladbrook-Reinbeck was 13th with 24 points.

Additional top finishes by G-R included Blake Mathern who finished eighth in the 100 hurdles (17.26), while the Rebels’ sprint medley relay team of Dylan Mathern, Elly Sieh, Blake Mathern, and Brant also placed eighth (1:58.05).
