Wolverines, Rebels among runners at Pine Lake
ELDORA — Grundy Center cross country junior Emerson Vokes cruised to an individual title at a South Hardin Invite held at Pine Lake Golf Course last Thursday, Sept. 5.
Vokes, last year’s state runner-up in Class 1A, completed the course in 16 minutes, 32 seconds — almost two minutes faster than runner-up Nathan Pint of Jesup.
BCLUW senior Cayden White notched a sixth-place finish in 18:42, followed by Grundy Center freshman Jayce Fryslie in 18:55.
West Marshall led all area teams in third with 158 points. Erick Rosas-Canchola was the Trojans’ top finisher in 23rd in 20:38 but all five scoring Trojan runners finished within a minute of each other; Urijah Courter was 24th in 20:44, Jacob Eirikson scored 36th in 21:22, Heng Wong 37th in 21:28, and Tyler Turner 38th in 21:30. Jesup was the team champion with 44 points, just ahead of Nevada with 46 points.
East Marshall was fifth in the team standings with 167 points, two ahead of Grundy Center in sixth. Austin Pansegrau led the Mustangs in 18th overall in 19:48.
GMG was eighth as a team with 203 points, led by Grady Dieleman in 19:44 finishing in 17th place. White led BCLUW to 10th place as a team with 218 points. Meskwaki was 13th with 393 points, paced by Hagaa Slick-Driscoll scoring 59th in 23:14.
Caleb Bowser led a non-scoring G-R team in 41st in 21:29.
Levi Harmsen was the top North Tama finisher in 105th overall in 25:37.
