Blue Devils too much for GMG baseball

ST. MARYS – A nine-run first inning for Martensdale-St. Marys was the undoing for the GMG baseball team as the Wolverines fell 13-5 to the Blue Devils on Thursday, June 27.

GMG (6-16) struck for two runs in the game’s first half inning before the Blue Devils (20-7) answered in kind. Cooper Oberbroeckling was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the home team, which totaled 12 hits and collected 12 total walks from GMG pitchers.

Rider Kupka was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Wolverines. Ethan Klemesrud was 2-for-4, and Kaleb Gill hit an RBI single and scored twice.

Gill took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs — six earned — on seven hits in his one inning pitched. Drayson Stephenson tossed five innings in relief, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three.
