Mustangs split at NICL triangular

WATERLOO — The East Marshall/GMG/Meskwaki wrestling team traveled to Waterloo Columbus last Thursday night and split an NICL triangular meet. The Mustangs (2-14, 2-8) opened with a 45-27 win over Waterloo Columbus, but they couldn’t get past Dike-New Hartford in a 54-24 loss.

Xavier Slifer was the long EM/GMG wrestler to win two matches on the night, as he recorded a pair of pins. He registered a third-period pin over Matthias Hackett of Waterloo Columbus, and he finished off the Wolverines’ Karson VanHeiden just before the end of the second period.

Drew Wheater got the Mustangs’ only other match win against DNH/G-R with a second-period pin of Jace Aneweer.

Against the Sailors, EM/GMG got pins from Cade Burchland (106), Nohlan Coon (113), Jordan Meling (120), Jayven Roberts (157) and Johnathan Edel (190). Lawrence Dye (144) won his match by decision.
