Wolverines outscored by Janesville, 54-20

JANESVILLE — The GMG football team surrendered 402 yards of total offense in a 54-20 rout handed out by district foe Janesville last Thursday night.

Janesville (2-0) ran for 318 yards and threw for 84 more, as quarterback Dane Appleby was the featured ball carrier. Appleby had 21 carries for 235 yards and four touchdowns, and he finished 3-for-8 passing for 84 yards and two scores. Trevor Forey caught all three passes the Wildcats completed.

GMG (0-2) piled up 205 yards of total offense, getting its three rushing touchdowns from three different players. Jabari Woodbury had a 61-yard touchdown run, while quarterbacks Slate Witte and Rider Kupka both added scoring runs.

Woodbury also caught four passes for 58 yards as Witte and Kupka both threw for 41 yards.

Anthony Waters led the GMG defense with 7.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Austin Pencil and Kupka had six tackles apiece, and Joaquin Williams also recovered a fumble. Matthew DeSchamp had 5.5 tackles.

GMG takes on Dunkerton (1-1) this Friday, Sept. 8 at home in another district match-up. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Garwin.
