Rebels reign in season debut at Montezuma

WILLIAMSBURG — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck volleyball team won three matches on its way to the Montezuma Tournament title on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The Rebels (3-0) opened the season by beating Montezuma (21-9, 21-11), Williamsburg (21-23, 21-12, 16-14) and HLV (21-17, 21-19) to claim the crown.

The Rebels used a balanced attack to bounce Montezuma in straight sets. Kennedy Brant had five kills, Lily Dripps finished with four, while Jaden Hansen and Elly Sieh had three apiece. G-R served 39-for-41 as a team, tallying four aces in the win.

In the three-setter against Williamsburg, Brant racked up eight kills to lead the Rebels. Setters Kailey Larsen and Mallory Wrage collecting 14 and six assists, respectively.

Sieh scored four blocks at the net, while Kloie Hendricks made 14 digs to lead the defense. Dylinn Blohm served 15-for-16 with two aces, Brant was 11-for-11 with two aces, and Hansen was 9-for-10 with a whopping four aces.

Brant’s six kills led a balanced attack against HLV, with Hansen, Sieh and Stella Heinzel getting three kills each.

Wrage led the defense with seven digs and served 8-for-9 with two aces.

Heading into this week, G-R was ranked No. 12 in Class 1A – up a spot from the preseason rankings.

After facing East Marshall at home tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Rebels (5-4) are set to face area rival North Tama (7-5) on the road Thursday before traveling to Eldora on Saturday, Sept. 9 for the South Hardin Volleyball Tournament.
