Rebels complete regular season with unbeaten record

HUDSON — The Class 1A No. 1 Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ soccer team closed out an unbeaten regular season with a 2-0 triumph over No. 10 Hudson last Friday night.

Austin Betts and Isaac Clark scored goals for the Rebels (16-0), while Tyler Nolder was credited with assists on both tallies against the Pirates (8-7).

Max Anderson stopped all five shots he faced in net for GC/G-R.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday (May 9), the Rebels walloped the eighth-rated Waterloo Columbus Sailors, 5-0.

Aiden Hunemuller had two goals to lead the Rebels (15-0), while Tyler Nolder had one goal and four assists. Austin Betts had a goal and an assist as GC/G-R jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead on the visiting Sailors (7-7).

Dylan Knaack also chipped in a goal for the Rebels. Goalkeeper Max Anderson needed to make just two saves for the clean sheet. GC/G-R put 22 shots on goal in the win.

The team will next see action after a first-round bye in the postseason on May 22, facing North Fayette Valley at Columbus Catholic High School. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
