No. 3 Rebels drop 14 treys on HLV

Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior Caleb Egesdal poured in eight of his team’s 14 3-pointers and the third-ranked Rebels ran roughshod on HLV for an 88-26 victory in the Friday, Feb. 17 Class 1A District 11 boys basketball semifinal matchup.

The Rebels (21-2) faced Keota (21-3) in Tuesday’s district final at Pleasantville High School. The Sun Courier will feature coverage of the game in next week’s edition.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck got a game-high 26 points from William Kiburis and Egesdal finished with 24 as the Rebels’ offense was rocking and rolling from the start. G-R eclipsed 80 points for the 12th time this season to move within two wins of the state tournament.

Luke Riffey sank three 3-pointers and totaled 11 points for G-R, and Drew Eilers added nine points in the wire-to-wire win.

Landon Hall scored 14 points to lead HLV (12-12), which entered the district semifinal on a six-game winning streak.

Tenth-ranked Lynnville-Sully (21-2) squares off with North Mahaska (19-4) in Knoxville in the District 12 final. The district champions will meet Feb. 25 at a neutral site with a trip to Des Moines on the line.
