Kiburis piles up 46 points, breaks school record

Mr. Iowa Basketball Joe Smoldt graduated from Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School in 2017 with most of the school records for boys basketball in tow.

One of the few that slipped through his grasp got knocked off the charts on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

G-R senior William Kiburis scored a school-record 46 points to lead the Class 1A No. 3 Rebels to an 84-64 victory over Dike-New Hartford in a cross-NICL showdown.

Kiburis made 17 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and was 10-of-11 from the free-throw line as the Rebels (19-1) rallied from an early deficit for the win. The 46-point performance surpasses the former mark of 43 in a game established by Kyle Dirks in 1997.

Isaac Clark and Drew Eilers added 13 points apiece, Caleb Egesdal had nine points and Luke Riffey added three for G-R.

Braxten Johnson led Dike-New Hartford (9-11) with 25 points, while Colin Meester and Benton Bixby added 12 points apiece.
