GMG girls’ basketball team reaches 10 wins

GMG girls’ basketball hit the 10-win mark with a good portion of the season left to go on Tuesday, Jan. 24, defeating Colo-NESCO 54-30 on the road and moving to 10-6 on the season and 7-3 in the Iowa Star South. Colo-NESCO drops to 2-13 and 2-9.

The Wolverines had a strong first quarter and led 15-6, adding to the lead with a 17-12 second frame to hold a 32-18 advantage at the halftime break.

GMG held the Royals to just 12 points in the second half, leaning on the strong team defense while slowly pulling away for the comfortable final margin.

Reese Dieleman was the only Wolverine in double-figures with 17 points, going 7-for-15 from the floor. She also had nine rebounds. Adelyn Sienknecht and Dylan Mathern had nine points apiece while Maecyn Lewis and Marriah Stonewall scored six each.

Sienknecht had a game-high eight assists, followed closely by Mathern with five. Lewis grabbed seven rebounds and Stonewall had six.
