Wolverines fall in Week Zero opener at Janesville

Janesville quarterback Keegan Eastman ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as the Wildcats handled GMG 56-0 in Friday’s 8-Man football season opener.
Dane Appleby rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown as Janesville (1-0) piled up 36 rushes for 369 yards and seven scores. Peyton Trees toted the ball nine times for 61 yards and a touchdown, and Daniel Britt dashed into the end zone from 49 yards out on his only carry.
GMG (0-1) suffered the Week Zero defeat after turning the ball over four times and gaining just five first downs. The Wolverines were within 14-0 at the half but couldn’t hit paydirt.
The Wolverines were limited to 82 yards of total offense. Quarterback Brenden Becker was 5-for-22 passing for 57 yards with an interception, and Rider Kupka was 0-for-2 with an interception.
Wide receiver Jabari Woodbury led the way with four catches for 54 yards, and Colin Teske made one grab for 3 yards. Becker was GMG’s leading rusher with 12 carries for 19 yards, and Anthony Waters had seven rushes for 12 yards.
Matthew DeSchamp forced a fumble and had a quarterback sack to boost the Wolverine defense. Kupka returned two interceptions a total of 67 yards, and Austin Pencil recovered a fumble.
GMG hosts Grand View Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. in Garwin.
