GC/G-R and GMG runners hit Grundy course

Paul Brockett helped his team to a runner-up finish on Sept. 23 in Grundy Center. The senior came in 23rd place with a time of 18:36.93.
More than 15 schools gathered at the Town and Country Golf Club in Grundy Center on Sept. 23 for the Sam Iverson Invitational Cross Country Meet.
The GC/G-R squad was led by a runner-up team finish by the boys.
The team netted 65 points, not far behind team champion Charles City who scored 49.
GC/G-R was led by three top 10 performances.
First in was Kaden Lynch in seventh place with a time of 17:41.84. He was followed close behind by teammate Ethan Sadler who was eighth with a time of 17:43.23.

Senior Soren Cleveland rounded out the trio, finishing in 10th place with a time of 17:46.72.
GC/G-R also got help from Brennen Sager who beat out Kaleb Grant of East Marshall by less than a second for 17th place. Sager ended with a finishing time of 18:18.74.
Next in for GC/G-R was Paul Brockett in 23rd place with a time of 18:36.93.
Rounding out the boys roster was Tylor Venega (29th) and Jeryn Spear (50th).
Isaac Natvig won the varsity boys race with a time of 16:57.31.

The GC/G-R girls runners beat out BCLUW by two points for a 10th place team finish with 226 points.
They were led by Bella Dole and Taylor Stahl who finished 31st and 32nd respectively.
Dole’s finishing time was 22:45.58 and Stahl’s time was 22:51.02.
Coming in 40th place was GC/G-R freshman Kate Hayes who ended with a time of 23:39.90.
Elsewhere on the roster for GC/G-R was Avery Dirks (69th), Vanessa Ersland (69th) and Jessica Saak (75th).

Winners of the girls varsity team contest were the Denver Cyclones who turned in a rock bottom score of 31 behind four runners who finished in the top eight.
Union’s Ellie Rathe took the individual championship with a time of 18:53.50.
The GC/G-R team will next take the course on Sept. 28 in Jesup.
Neither the boys or girls squads for GMG had enough runners to compete in the team standings.
The Wolverines were led by Noah Teske who finished in 79th place. Other GMG runners included Jarret Hornberg (85th) and Abe Dieleman (88th) and Alice Hunt (81st) and Lily Bru (83rd).

The Wolverines will next run Sept. 27 in a rescheduled meet at BGM (Brooklyn).
