Summer Sports

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels got their summer season started as both the baseball and softball teams travelled to face East Marshall. The Rebels baseball team fought their way to a 3-1 win over the Mustangs behind a dominant, 19-strikeout performance from their senior all-state pitcher and Kirkwood CC commit, Tyler Tscherter. The next night the Rebels were again on the road, this time facing Columbus Catholic. After a tied, 2-2 first inning, the Sailors broke out scoring eight unanswered runs over the next four innings. G-R would rally in the sixth inning, plating five runs, but the comeback fell short with a final score of 11-8. The Rebels baseball team played Wednesday at Sumner-Fredricksburg and will face West Marshall on Thursday before hosting Kee and Janesville at a home tournament on Saturday.

It was a familiar outcome for the softball girls as they started their season against East Marshall. The Mustangs, a 2019 state semifinal team, blanked the Rebels 14-0 and extended their win streak over G-R to 21 games dating back to 2009. The softball girls will next be in action on Thursday at West Marshall and then again on Saturday at their home tournament.
