RebelHawks fourth in own tournament
Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama senior 138-pounder Matt Chamberlain improved to 20-2 this season with three wins on Saturday, claiming the RebelHawk wrestling team’s only individual championship at the GRNT Tournament.
The RebelHawks finished in fourth place in the eight-team tournament, scoring 128.5 points. Dike-New Hartford had five individual champions and racked up 247.5 points for the tournament title. Sigourney-Keota was second (168) and Belmond-Klemme took third (146.5), just ahead of GRNT.
Osage (105), West Delaware (102), Waverly-Shell Rock (70) and Belle Plaine (36) rounded out the field.
Chamberlain’s bracket championship came on the strength of three wins, the first being a third-period pin of West Delaware’s Rikki Million. He followed with a 12-9 decision over Noah Reeves of Sigourney-Keota and an 11-4 victory over Osage’s Brett Barker in the title bout.
Ethan Erhardt (126) and Tony Weber (195) both reached the finals in their respective brackets but came up short in the championship round. Erhardt lost by major decision to Belmond-Klemme’s Zach Andrews, while Weber was pinned by Dike-New Hartford’s Kyle Dennis. Prior to reaching the last round, Erhardt won by technical fall and by pin, while Weber benefitted from a bye before scoring a first-period pinfall in his semifinal match.
Third place went to Michael Krienert (182) and Jacob Walters (285), while fourth-place finishes were earned by Noah Skornia (106), Scott Morrison (152).
Cael Wyatt (120), Bronson Wrage (132) and Conway Fiesel (220) each placed fifth, while Seth Gretillat (145) and William Blakesley (160) took sixth.
The RebelHawks are back in action on Thursday, going on the road to Ackley for a North Iowa Cedar League dual with AGWSR starting at 6:30 p.m.
