JV Rebel football

It was a beautiful Monday evening on September 22 and the Rebels played host to the Cyclones from Denver. We played them on Thursday at Denver in a Fresh-Soph showdown and then battled them Friday night in the varsity contest and now it was time to shut the book on Denver match ups for this year with the final chapter involving our JV team. We were not very good hosts as we proceeded to dominate this game and cruise to a 48-16 victory. This win moves us to 2-1 on the year.

The first quarter saw both teams march right down the field for scores. Denver led after one quarter 8-6. From this point on it was all Rebels. We threw up 22 points in the second quarter to take a 28-8 lead into the half. We stopped Denver on the first series on the second half and we scored two more times to expand the lead to 41-8. After a Cyclone turnover early in the fourth period, we notched another score to start the continuous clock. Denver added a late score for the final of 48-16.

Parker Bown led the ground attack with 142 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Lott connected on 10 of 12 passes for 159 yards and 4 touchdowns. Erik Knaack and Tyler Pierce both had two touchdown grabs a piece. Josh Saak, Gage Murty, Parker, and Walker Thede also all had catches in our passing game. Gage added 40 yards rushing and a score and Dmitriy Strohbehn added 25 yards on the ground and a touchdown of his own. Offensively we totaled 362 yards of total offense. Defensively we were led by Thomas Mussig with 8 tackles followed closely by Josh Saak with 7. Dmitriy and Gage had 5 each and Paker, Hunter, Slade Wager, and Jed Peterson each had 4. Tyler, Matt Roeding, Spencer Goos, and Mason Skovgard 3, Kyle Koppen, Rhett Barnes, Owen Beach, and Josh Peterson 2, Cael Wyatt, Erik, Joseph Pepe, and Christian Kibe all chipped in a tackle each. Matt, Gage, Erik, and Dmitriy also all had interceptions for us.

We were pretty solid on both sides of the ball. We are improving every time out and that is what we are looking for as a staff. We still have many things to work on and get better at but there is no doubt these guys will work at it and become the best players and people they can be. The future of Rebel football still looks very bright.

Monday evening September 29 the JV Rebels hosted the Trojans from West Marshall. The Trojans from State Center have a fine football tradition and no matter what you can expect a great effort from their kids and their coaching staff. We knew we needed to be ready to go for this one.

We kicked off and shut WM down on their first drive. We took over after a blocked punt and I do mean took over as we absolutely dominated every aspect of this game. We scored in every possible way in the first half and stormed to a commanding 49-0 lead. We added a couple of more scores in the second half and cruised to a 69-0 victory. This improves our record to 3-1 on the year. Parker Bown had three rushing touchdown and booted 6 PAT’s through the uprights. Hunter Lott had one rushing TD and another one on the second half kickoff return. Hunter also connected with Tyler Pierce and Walker Thede for scores. Walker also returned an interception for a touchdown. Joseph Baugus and Gage Murty added scores on the ground for us as we had our way with the Trojans on this night.

The Rebel defense was relentless and we were led by a solid effort from Tyler and Parker with 6 and 5 tackles. Matt Roeding, Slade Wager, Hunter, and Thomas Mussig 3, Erik Knaack, Dmitriy Strohbehn, Joseph, Gage, Jed Peterson, and Rhett Barnes 2, and Josh Peterson, Mason Skovgard, Josh Saak, Seth Gretillat, and Walker all added 1 stop each to account for our tackle totals.

This football team is improving every time out on the field and they are fun to watch. Both sides of the ball are improving on every snap of the ball. Come out and see these young Rebels compete. Our next action will be Monday October 13 at Ackley against the 3rd rated Class A football team in the state. The AGWSR Cougars are always physical and they will give us all we want. Game time is 6:00 p.m. on the 13th. See you on the sidelines.
