Stoakes, Rebels run roughshod on DNH
DIKE – Eric Stoakes rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns as Gladbrook-Reinbeck avenged five consecutive losses to Dike-New Hartford by pounding the Class 1A No. 5 Wolverines 49-25 on Friday night.
The Rebels (1-1) ran for 308 of their 324 total yards. Cameron Murphy finished with 54 yards and one touchdown, and Colton Dinsdale had 39 yards and two scores in addition to his defensive touchdown.
Dinsdale opened the game’s scoring when he scooped up Connor McCleeary’s fumble and raced 70 yards the other way with it for a 7-0 Rebel lead midway through the first period.
The Rebels went into halftime leading 28-13 and tallied the first two TDs in the third quarter to go in front 42-13.
Connor Neuroth returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for Dike-New Hartford, but G-R salted it away with Dinsdale’s second TD dive.
Trent Johnson ran for 178 yards on 12 carries to lead the Wolverines (1-1), but they could not overcome three turnovers.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck quarterback Camden Kickbush returned to action after missing the season-opening loss to Union and finished 2-for-4 passing for 16 yards.
The Rebels delve into Class A District 4 play next Friday night in Conrad, taking on BCLUW (2-0).
