G-R basketball cheerleaders

On Tuesday, November 27th, G-R basketball cheerleaders had their first game. To prepare for this game, these young ladies go through many preparations. To be on the cheerleading squad each girl must try-out. Try-outs consist of two days of preparation to learn a dance, jumps and a cheer. The third day, they go in front of judges and perform a cheer, dance, some jumps and optional tumbling. The judges pick six out of the many girls who have tried out. Many of the girls can get very nervous during this time. “They made me nervous. The judges can be intimidating, so it was kind of scary. I just reminded myself to smile, and not to think about it too much,” Cortney Crozier, team member.

This year’s team members are Jenna Hoffman, Ashley Moore, Cortney Crozier, Rachel Bown, Haley Eastom and Megan Weber. To prepare for every game they have practices.

During the practices they learn and review cheers. The team also decide on new dances and cheers together. This year they have many things planned such as working on harder stunts, and participating in the Jazz Show this winter.
