Rebels run at Benton Invite

ATKINS – Megan Oelschlager finished in 39th place to lead the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ cross country team at the Benton Invite on Saturday.

Oelschlager crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 14 seconds to pace the Rebels, who had just five runners and placed last in the 11-team standings.

Meg Edler finished 62nd for G-R in 19:29, while Hannah Martin was 65th (19:55) and Kelsey Schwartz was 67th (20:15). Emily Johnson rounded out the Rebels’ scoring with a 75th-place finish (21:46).

Class 3A third-ranked Solon was the team champion with 49 points, ahead of 3A No. 12 Williamsburg (53), 3A No. 11 Mount Vernon-Lisbon (86) and 1A No. 3 North Linn (107).

Tyler Bovy was the lone Rebel boys runner, finishing 41st in a time of 19:21.

Mount Vernon-Lisbon, ranked eighth in 3A, won the boys’ team title with 59 points. Vinton-Shellsburg (75) was second and Waterloo Columbus Catholic (104) took third.
