5/7/12 @ Falcon Relays – Parkersburg

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Boys Track team traveled to Parkersburg on Monday, May 7th to compete in the Falcon Relays. This meet featured a number of strong teams looking to compete in the state track meet. Falcon Relays served as a preparatory meet for the state qualifying meet on Thursday. We were looking to run a mix individual and relay events to stay fresh. The Rebels competed strong in the 3200M Run, as Tyler Bovy finished 5th with a time of 11:29. The Distance Medley team of Phil Zimmerman, Trevor Trunck, Wyatt Swanson, and Sam Johnson finished 4th with a season best time of 3:59.

5/10/12 @ State Qualifying Meet – Grundy Center

The Rebel Boys Track Team made the trek to Grundy Center on Thursday, May 10th for the State Qualifying Meet. As a 1A school, we saw several teams that we did not run into during the course of the season. But the competition was just a fierce, and the young Rebel team did a nice job of holding their own on a great night for track and field. Zach Pierce started the night off right in the shot put with a throw of 40′ 9.5″, which was 4th overall. The 4×800 team of Sam Johnson, Trevor Trunck, Austin Lott, and Wyatt Swanson ran a season best time of 8:35, but only finished 5th. As we later found out, the 800M runners at Grundy Center were the strongest in the state! Wyatt Swanson finished runner-up in the 400M Dash with a time of 52.74. Wyatt also finished 4th in the 800 with a time of 2:05. Clay Clubine ran a personal best in the 400M dash, 57.61, and placed 7th. Tyler Bovy finished 8th in the 3200M Run with a time of 11:26. Blake Kibe jumped 5′ 4″ in the high jump and placed 8th.

Again, we saw a number of personal bests and strong performances by the Rebels. This group improved throughout the season and put forth their best times, jumps, and throws at the end of the season. As a team, G-R finished 9th out of 13 teams.

On Friday, the state qualifiers were released by the IHSAA. The 4×800 team qualified with the 19th best time (out of 24) in 1A. Wyatt Swanson also qualified in the 400 (19th best time) and the 800 (12th best time). The 4×800 team will run at 5:40 on Thursday. Wyatt will run his 400 at 7:20 on Thursday and his 800 at 10:30AM on Saturday.
