Thanksgiving: A Time To Reflect
Pastor John Granchie.
Psalm 100:4-5 says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
Thanksgiving is a time for many to pause and give thanks for all they have and all they have accomplished. Truth be told, if you’re reading this, chances are you are blessed and have far more than many of those in other parts of the world. Americans enjoy many freedoms that others do not have. We are free to worship our Lord and Savior King Jesus, we are free to pursue our careers, happiness and hobbies. Most Americans take this for granted and never give a second thought to those who are mandated to work jobs they hate and are not allowed to worship the way they want. We are truly a blessed nation.
However, many in this country even with all its freedoms and wealth are struggling to just make it through the day wondering if they can afford to feed their families. The Bible reminds us that we are to care for the poor, which involves feeding the hungry.
In Isaiah 58:10, God reminded the nation of Israel that feeding the hungry was an important part of true faith: “Spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed.” John the Baptist also reminded the Jews who came to him, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.” Luke 3:11.
If you are able, I would encourage you to reach out and find a needy family in your community this Thanksgiving. Share with them, help them carry the load or provide a meal or two. Make this Thanksgiving about helping those in need. By doing so you just may have an opportunity to share the Message of Jesus Christ and the Power of His Saving Grace.
From Our House to Yours,
Happy Thanksgiving
