Pastor’s Corner Rev. Barb Muhs, pastor, Salem Church of Lincoln Lincoln, Iowa
While reading my morning devotion the other day, the author wrote about her impatience at the veterinary office. You know those kind of day when you have an appointment and a list of other things that need to be done. After waiting for 45 minutes she was called back to the room with her own pet. Leaving the office much later than anticipated, struggling to decide what she should do next she looked up to see a woman leaving with tears in her eyes. It became obvious to her that this woman had just had to have her dog put down. Like many of us the author began to realize that she had not given any thought as to why she had to wait so long to get in to see the vet. As I was reading this I began to see many upcoming situations on the schedule where time commitments were closer than comfort would allow. I looked at a list of people and began to realize that there would be some short yet necessary visits. Next on my list of thoughts was how we are too often glued to the clock. We have everything planned. I then decided that maybe for Lent the best lesson to learn is to take care of the people that you care about and in the procession will take care of you. One of the songs that we used to sing includes the words, “In His Time, God makes all things beautiful in His time.” During Lent I encourage you to find ways to be transformed into God’s way of living as you go about your business of offering hope and grace to all you know and meet.
