30 Years Ago June 16, 1989 Darold and Lola Dreessen, rural Toledo, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Andrea (Annie) Grimmius and Greg Stocker exchanged wedding vows on May 13. Parents of the couple are Edith Whannel and the late Wayne Whannel and Marion and Carmen Fisher, all of Conrad. Jim and Deb Osborn of Gladbrook are the parents of a baby girl named Jaime Marie, born June 3. Jack and Laura Osborn are her paternal grandparents and Chuck and Shirley Delfs are her maternal grandparents. 40 Years Ago June 22, 1979 A. G. Edwards and Sons, Inc., St. Louis based investment firm, has announced the promotion of Ronald L. Moeller of the firm’s Clayton, Missouri office. Mr. and Mrs. Eldrige Louviere of Broussard, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter Karen, to John Marten Hooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Hooper of Gladbrook. Linda Anne Brandt and Rodney Lee Wiebensohn were united in marriage on June 8. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hansen and Leonard Brandt of Reinbeck and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wiebensohn of Gladbrook. 50 Years Ago June 13, 1969 Mr. and Mrs. John Putney are the parents of a baby girl. She has been named Leah Jo and was born June 6. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Green of Des Moines and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Putney of Gladbrook. Airman Ronnie E. Landt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Landt, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. The Gladbrook Lions Club last week placed four new benches on Gladbrook’s Main Street. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frericks of Gladbrook announce the marriage of their daughter, Barbara Ann, to Steven Storjohann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Storjohann, Marshalltown. Miss Barbara Jean Harder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harder of Gladbrook and Duane Kent Beichley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Beichley, also of Gladbrook were united in marriage May 31. 60 Years Ago June 12, 1959 Darlene L. Dinsdale of Traer became the bride of Allen W. Eggers of Gladbrook. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dinsdale and the bride groom is the son of Arnold Eggers of Gladbrook. Lee Ribby, of Tama, recently was convicted of bootlegging in Tama Co. District Court, was sentenced Friday by Judge Farber to pay a $300 fine and serve 1 year in the county jail. Pamela Kay Eckhart, 6 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Eckhart, who live near Union Grove Lake, passed away Sunday morning at the Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown of a heart condition. 70 Years Ago June 10, 1949 Raphael Joseph Schmitz, 32, young farmer living on the Smith farm , a mile and a quarter southeast of Gladbrook, was electrocuted and passed away in a farm accident about 11:00 p.m. last Friday evening. Albert Behounek, 63, and his wife, 53, were killed instantly at 6:55 Tuesday morning when their car was struck by Northwestern City of San Francisco train at the street crossing in Chelsea. Leah Jean Himschoot, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Himschoot of Buckingham, and Robert Hamilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude T. Hamilton of Lincoln Township, were married May 30. 80 Years Ago June 9, 1939 Henry Knoble, 77, passed away at his home here Tuesday night, he had been in ill health since September. Mr. Knoble worked for a time at the Stauffer brick plant and later he was the first rural carrier when R.F.D. route was established. Miss LeNore Cole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cole, of Greene, and Kenneth Bower, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. V. Bower, of this place were united in marriage. Wednesday afternoon Gladbrook escaped the devastating storm which struck quite near. Hail shattered windows and ruined crops as few as five miles out. At the Sam Martin home the hail was so heavy that a half hour after the storm you could scoop up hail by the shovel full. Word was received that Barbara Jean Oaks, 14-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Oaks, Glendale, California, received a rating of 99% in the Better Baby Show, sponsored by the Women’s Benefit association and received honorable mention in the beauty contest and was given a screen test in Hollywood. Barbara Jean is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schoel and John Oaks, Sr., of this place. 90 Years Ago June 13, 1929 Miss Ruth Ethel Kubik, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kubik, Toledo, and Herbert Theodore Wentzien, son of H. H. Wentzien, Jr., were united in marriage June 5. Hail which fell north of Toledo and in Garwin late Tuesday afternoon proved highly destructive and left in its wake hundreds of broken windows and crippled and dead livestock. The rural home of Mrs. Martin Bruene, one and a half miles north of town, was placed under quarantine for scarlet fever Monday. Her daughter Betty has the disease in a very mild form. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gloe, in Lincoln, was placed under quarantine the last of the week for smallpox. Mr. Gloe having the disease in mild form.
