10 YEARS AGO DEC. 4. 2008 Five homes featured on tour in Grundy Center on Dec. 7 includes: Jurgen & Sarah Block, Jerry & Linda Cassiday, Dennis & Gina Henningsen, Pastor Michael & Linda Nemmer and Jolene Rosauer. Preschoolers can now play outside thanks to Zack McCarthy for installing a new fence around the playground. Mr. & Mrs. Roland Hummel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family trip to Brandson in June. Nadja Nikol & David Keller were married Jan. 25, 2008 in Daaden, Germany. Ernest Larsen, 85, died Nov. 27 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Kenneth Schlicht, 83, Hudson, died Nov. 27 at Manor Care Health Services Dennis Dodd & Ryan Ross both received their five year service awards. They are both employed at the Grundy Co. Secondary road Dept. 20 YEARS AGO DEC. 3, 1998 American Legion #242 donated an American flag to Reinbeck Elementary School. American Legion donated $400 to the Reinbeck Children & Youth in need program. Grundy Co. Board of Supervisors has approved a contract with Moore & Associates of Omaha for plans on a six bed addition in the county law enforcement center, Gladys Baker, 79, Holland, died Nov. 29 at the Grundy Hospital. Carla Heims & Spencer Week were married on Sept. 25 in Cedar Rapids. Beth Klein and Scott Schellhorn will be married on Feb. 2. Larry Herink is this years recipient of “Citizen of the Year Award” in Lincoln. Mr. & Mrs. John McMillian are parents of a daughter born Nov. 19. Mr. & Mrs. Brian Sienknecht are parents of a son born Nov. 20. 30 YEARS AGO DEC. 8, 1988 Ralph DauSchmidt, 82, Reinbeck, died Dec. 4. Josephine Ohrt, 97, Gladbrook, died Dec. 2. Roger Meyer, 39, died Dec . 2. Wm. Slater, 80, Grundy Center, died Nov. 30. 40 YEARS AGO DEC . 14, 1978 Marvin Graves, Dike, will end his banking career with 40 years of service at Iowa Savings Bank. Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Richards, Waterloo, are parents of a daughter born Dec . 6. Country Side Ford-Mercury in Grundy Center will hold their grand opening on Dec . 15 & 16. 50 YEARS AGO DEC. 12, 1968 Grundy Co. Hospital is scheduled to let construction contracts on its delayed one million improvement project. Mrs. John Lee Classen, 40, died Dec.10 at Schoitz Hospital. Harry Dahms, 83, died Dec. 9 at Sunnyrest Nursing Home in Traer. Oak Leaf Country Club was hit by thieves when more than $270 in merchandise was taken. Mr. & Mrs. Warren Reinicke are parents of a daughter on Nov. 26. Mr. & Mrs. Richard Ford have adopted a daughter born Nov. 21. Diane Neuhalfen & Vance Sebbert were married Nov. 23 at Queen of Heaven Church. Reinbeck Town Council and Mayor James Westergaard hired a second policeman. Ronald Williams. of Fort Madison. Samuel Newton, 86, died Dec. 7 of a heart attack. Grundy Board of Supervisors have approved a 1969 county secondary road budget calling for construction and maintance expenditure totaling $1,020, 395.
