Timothy Christian School is recipient for National Endowment for Humanities in Wellsburg. Harold Robertson, 95, Reinbeck, died Sept. 15 at Parkview Manor. Basil Smith, 78, Hudson, died Sept. 19 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Elson Hockemeyer, 94, Reinbeck, died Sept. 9 at his son’s home near Hudson. Zach McCarthy & Nicole Vieth were chosen as Homecoming King & Queen. 20 YEARS AGO SEPT. 24, 1998 Louie Beenken, Jr. 76,, Grundy Center, died Sept. 21 at his home. Lois Uhlenhopp, 61, Grundy Center, died Sept. 16 from injuries received in an auto accident. Delbert Boldt, 67, Traer, died Sept. 12 at Covenant Medical Center. Donald Bandy, 60, Traer, died Sept. 19 at U of I Hospital. Paul Arp, 72, Traer, died Sept. 20 at Covenant Medical Center. Sarah Wambold is a member of the little Panthers Swim Team at Northern University High School. Mr. & Mrs. Jason Meester are parents of a son born Sept. 13. Mr. & Mrs. LaVern McIntyre will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 25. Victoria Robinson, 85, is officially a United States citizen. 30 YEARS AGO SEPT. 29, 1988 Sept. 30 marks the end of 41 years in the service station business for Tom Emmett. Sissy Harris & Martin Smekal were married August 6. Mr. & Mrs. Willis Stickfort celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a surprise potluck at Elmwood Park. Alice Weiss, 83, Grundy Center, died Sept 3 of a heart attack Funeral services for Alfred Thomsen, 77, Lincoln, were held Sept. 29. Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Shaffer, Reinbeck, are parents of a daughter born Sept. 12. Mr. & Mrs. Greg Dirks are parents of a son born Sept. 20. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Schildroth, South Bend, IND. are parents of a daughter born Sept. 23. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Nederhoff, Grundy Center, are parents of a daughter born Sept. 26. Wayne Thede had by-pass surgery at Allen Hospital. 40 YEARS AGO OCT. 5, 1978 Beginning Oct. 18 most Reinbeck merchants will be open for business until 9:00 p.m. Reinbeck Courier observes its 100th birthday. The business was established in Oct. 1878 Kathy Billerbeck and & Gregory Heisey of Douglas, AZ, were married Sept. 2. Mr. & Mrs. Carl Schneider will observe their 70th wedding anniversary on Oct. 7. Bond hearing for expansion of Pioneer Hi-Bred and dismissal of officer Tom Hansen draws large crowd at City council meeting. Funeral services for Dorothy Richards, 58, formerly of Reinbeck, were held on Sept. 30. Funeral services for Carrie Anderson. 85, Traer,were held Oct. 3. 50 YEARS AGO OCT. 3, 1968 Otto Mertens, 69, retires after 51 years with the railroad. Thirty-one of those years have been spent in Reinbeck. His son Robert will be the new station agent. Mr. & Mrs. Carl Scneider will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6. Bernard “King” Keith, Voorhies, has been appointed new manager of Voorhies Grain. Mr. & Mrs. Keith Johanssen are parents of a daughter. The new General Telephone building to be constructed east of the Reinbeck Post Office.
