Letter to the Editor: Vote for Mark Doland on Nov. 5

My name is Gwendy (Thede) Doland. I am married to Mark Doland and would like to provide some insight into the more private side of this candidate for County Supervisor. Mark is a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He is passionate about his faith in God, his family, and his community. Mark is a strong leader to our family and a trusted confidant to many. As his wife, I’ve witnessed Mark rearing our children, helping them develop into the strong individuals they are today. He brings this same care and commitment to relationships with others in the community. Mark has developed and sustained long lasting relationships with individuals who’ve sought mentorship and guidance from him. He is a leader whose advice is greatly valued by many, and he is committed to serving. Mark is knowledgeable about a vast array of topics and helps individuals analyze decisions logically and objectively. Throughout his career he has served his community in a variety of roles as both a faith leader and a leader within the behavioral health field. Mark’s journey has led him in a variety of directions, and at each turn he’s built alliances and learned about the unique strengths, needs, and intricacies of the roles within each organization or community. Mark is a visionary and combined with his leadership skills, have led him to mobilize groups within communities, creating programs and services that had not previously existed. An example being jail diversion programs established in multiple communities to match services with the needs of the people rather than simply putting people in jail that are experiencing mental health and/or substance abuse crises. This has led to much better outcomes for communities while also saving taxpayers thousands of dollars. Like all of us, Mark has faced challenges and adversities throughout his life, but they have helped him persevere. As a result, he confronts dilemmas head on, anchoring himself in truth, faith, and commitment to the task at hand.

Now more than ever we need strong leadership in Tama County. Mark has a long track record of being a leader and has the expertise and commitment to serve our county. As a Tama County citizen, mother, and mental health provider, I strongly believe that Mark Doland is the exceptional candidate to serve as our County Supervisor in District 4. I urge you to vote Mark Doland in the election on November 5.
