Letter to the Editor: Jesus and Trump

Eighty percent of Americans see our country as polarized. They see polarization as a blockade to governing because the two polarized political parties can’t work together to legislate. However, fifty percent of Iowans enjoy polarization. This is obvious because they support a candidate who has said openly that when he is elected, he will achieve vengeance. He will seek out those who offended him, and they will regret their offenses.

This candidate also has the blessing of many religious groups. These groups seem to dismiss the example set by Jesus. They are selective in their faith. They take what they like and dismiss the rest. For example, when Jesus was suffering on the cross, he said, forgive them. They know not what they do. It appears Jesus wasn’t really into the vindictive, anger and vengeance thing. Jesus needed to take some lessons from Trump.

So 50 percent of Iowans, some of whom are the faithful, want to see the show when their candidate becomes president and goes to work making people pay. The anger generated will feed the fire of polarization and 50 percent of Iowans will have provided the matches.
