Supervisors approve waiver of taxes on pair of Tama homes By John Speer CIP jspeer@tamatoledonews.com

Property taxes were abated on two houses now in possession of the City of Tama by the Board of Supervisors on Monday, Jan. 27. The homes are located adjacent to each other the two properties at 504 and 508 John Street. Both are vacant. The 504 property which had been and apartment house in recent had a total of $2,023 in taxes abated and the 508 home had $1,323 taxes abated. Special assessments totaling $6,777 on the 508 address and $2,798 on the 504 property are expected to be considered for abatement at the Feb. 2 meeting of the Tama City Council. After that, city officials are faced with disposal of both residences. The possibility of a Tama Fire Department practice burn is one possibility mentioned. The Tama City Council has had a campaign underway since June, 2018, to address nuisance, dilapidated and abandoned housing in the city. In other business the board of supervisors approved weekly claims totaling $106,903.
