On Monday the Tama County Board of Supervisors approved a measure to consolidate mental health and disability services under one employer blanket. Tama County services will continue to be provided through an office in Toledo. The local office is located at 211 West State Street. The change is Jammie Riffey, the Tama County case manager, will be an employee of and the office equipment and a vehicle will become the property of the 22-member County Social Services Mental Health and Disability Services Region on Jan.1, 2020. The social services provided by Tama County have a total levy amount of $672,103 for the current year according to Tama County Auditor Laura Kopsa. A total of $427,217 is paid to the region for services. The balance is reserved to pay for operations of the office. Currently the region is made up of Tama and Allamakee, Black Hawk, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Chickasaw, Emmet, Fayette, Floyd, Grundy, Hancock, Howard, Humboldt, Kossuth, Mitchell, Pocahontas, Webster, Winnebago, Worth, Winneshiek and Wright counties. They are all contingence. However, 1st District Supervisor Larry Vest said Monday three counties are expected to leave the consortium which will leave one county without a borer to a member county. The County Social Services website says, “January 1, 2009 five counties came together to further advance the vision of creating a more equitable service system, while retaining the principle of local control.” And, “CSS will serve tax payers and people with disabilities in the most effective and efficient manner possible.” In other business Monday the supervisors: •approved employee insurance provisions. Taken under advisement was a provision to provide soem type of health insurance coverage for peace officer families in the event of the death of an officer. •approved weekly claims totaling $264,860.
