Rebels bulldoze Baxter 66-6

BAXTER – The Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team ran for 337 yards and six touchdowns while running its win streak to three games, beating Baxter 66-6 in Friday’s 8-Man District 5 contest.

Keagan Giesking collected 158 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries, hitting paydirt from distance of 67 and 49 yards in the first quarter as the Rebels (3-2, 3-0) ran out to a 16-0 lead. Cullen Eiffler tacked on a 22-yard TD run and G-R got out front 22-0 before its defense took over.

Jace Peterson and Eli Thede both returned interceptions for touchdowns inside the last six minutes of the second quarter, and Gladbrook-Reinbeck blocked a Baxter punt out of the end zone for a safety to boost the halftime deficit to 38-0.

Thede took the opening kickoff of the second half back 58 yards for a touchdown and the Rebels continued to roll.

Eiffler finished with 67 yards rushing and two TDs, while Braydon Rohrer and Tom Smith both tacked on scoring runs in the fourth quarter. G-R outgained the host Bolts (2-4, 1-2) 352-267 and forced three turnovers.

Baxter quarterback Cole Damman was 16-for-31 passing for 145 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Carter Nelsen reeled in a 10-yard pass for the Bolts’ only score. Rory Heer added eight receptions for 82 yards.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck is back at home next Friday to face off with Collins-Maxwell.
