Tama County has joined some 30 areas of Iowa which are members of a program “to welcome transitioning military members and their families leaving military service to become Iowans.” The Iowa Home Base Community initiative was adopted by the Tama County Board of Supervisors on Monday, Oct. 1. Supervisors Larry Vest, Dan Anderson and Kenall Jordan all voted in favor of the resolution. Heath Kellogg, county economic development executive director, told supervisors the Tama County Economic Development Commission supported adopting the program. He said he will be meeting with city councils and the Meskwaki Tribal Council to also urge their designation of their communities as also part of the Home Base program. According to Iowa Economic Development the program “designates communities as centers of opportunity for military veterans and further highlights Iowa’s statewide commitment to welcoming and employing veterans.” Community incentives, business support events and signage locations are parts making the Home Base Communities. In other business the supervisors: •approved reappointing Doug Dvorak of the Zoning board and Stan Graff to the Board of Adjustment. •approved claims totaling $97,513.
