speer@tamatoledonews.com Renewal of law enforcement agreements providing Tama County Sheriff’s Office protection for a number of Tama County cities were approved by the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 20. Sheriff Dennis Kucera noted some increase in contract costs for most locations. For Gladbrook, Traer and Dysart the hourly rate is set at $48.25 up from the 2017-18 charge of $45.46. Gladbrook is contracted for up to 110 hours monthly, Traer for 180 hours monthly at a cost not to exceed $9,600 per month and Dysart, as needed to supplement the Dysart Police Force. Garwin is contracted for 25 hours at a cost of $1,000 monthly. For Chelsea, Elberon, Clutier and Lincoln an annual charge totaling $2,200 is set, up from $2,000 for the last fiscal year. Garwin is contracted for 25 hours at a charge of $1,000 monthly. Sheriff Kucera had not received a contract from Montour at the time of the supervisors’ meeting. Toledo, Tama and the Meskwaki Settlement have their own police departments. Vining does not contract for law enforcement but is covered by the sheriff’s office.
